ABOUT KHWK/HAWK TV

KHWK/Hawk TV is a student operated radio and TV station.  After learning the basic skills in their first semester, students enrolled in the Northeast broadcasting program participate as station staff members and managers.  Each sophomore student is responsible for a different aspect of the station and it’s day-to-day operations from music and programming to news, sports, social media, promotions and public service.

KHWK/Hawk TV is unique in the concept that the radio signal is transmitted over our cable channel instead of a radio transmitter.  Currently, we can be seen on Cable One channel 23-2 on-campus and channel 20 off-campus.  Viewers can hear our radio content while seeing messages created by our student staff members and intermittent shots of live video from our radio control studio.   Our station broadcasts multiple formats throughout the day.  (see our program schedule for full details)  You can also hear radio newscasts each weekday at 5pm and 6pm.  In addition, our news get’s visual on Tuesdays with Hawk TV News Tuesdays at 5pm.

KHWK/Hawk TV is also your home for Hawks Sports!  Our student staff members are responsible for broadcasting and streaming all Northeast home volleyball and basketball games.  From live play-by-play announcing to multiple cameras, on-screen graphics and directing, they do it all.  It’s like a mini-ESPN!!   They are also responsible for coverage of other Hawks sports, such as men’s soccer and women’s softball.  On Friday nights in the fall, our students hit the road to high school football games to shoot video from the sidelines.  The video is edited when they return and sent to KCAU-TV in Sioux City where it is used on their Friday night “Sports Zone”.  Students do the same work during high-school basketball season.

If you have any questions or comments about our station, they can be directed to Brian Anderson, our general manger and instructor during regular business hours.   His office line is 402-844-7359 or you can email him at [email protected].
